Servings 1

Ingredients

  • 2 oz (60 ml) Bourbon whiskey
  • 1 Sugar cube or 1/2 oz (15 ml) Simple syrup
  • 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Orange peel for garnish
  • Wood chips or a smoking gun for smoking
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  • Place a rocks glass upside down over a smoking device or a container filled with wood chips that have been ignited to produce smoke.
  • Allow the glass to fill with smoke and capture the aromatic essence for about 20-30 seconds. Lift the glass carefully, and if using a container, cover it to maintain the smoke.
  • In another mixing glass, muddle a sugar cube with Angostura bitters (or use simple syrup instead of a sugar cube for convenience).
  • Add bourbon whiskey to the mixing glass with ice and stir well to properly chill and dilute the drink.
  • Strain the stirred cocktail into the smoked rocks glass filled with ice cubes.
  • Express the oil from an orange peel over the drink by twisting it over the surface to release its aroma, then garnish the Smoked Old Fashioned with the peel.
  • Serve!
